I have many treasured memories of Denise. Today I am remembering the great times we had in our early 20s on the Texas coast. We took several trips with family and friends that involved too much sun tanning oil, lots of beverages, and hours laying out on the beach. Our adventures led us to South Padre Island and Port Isabelle. In Port Isabelle there was this sweet place right on the water called Louie’s Backyard. It was the popular spot to have drinks, watch the sun set, and enjoy dinner. We would get rip-snorting silly when we were there and I’m sure louder than we should have. Denise was such a hoot to hang out with…always! She loved to have fun. We would also fish when we were there vacationing. I don’t know why because we weren’t going to eat the fish! There was this time we went on a boat for four hours and I got unbelievably sick and couldn’t leave the bathroom, and another time, the boat man kept hitting the fish we caught in the head with a hammer. That was very bizarre not to mention brutal. We decided to quit hooking them so there would be no more head beatings. Another standout fish story was when we were fishing alone. We were having a big time until we caught one…and boy was it a big one. No, it was HUGE! That meant we had to reel it in, yeah we could do that, and then unhook it. Oh, no, that is where we drew the line. We weren’t touching the fish. We ended up using a folding chair we had with us to “grasp” the fish so we could unhook it and throw it back. We laughed about this for years!
I love and miss Denise so much!
