The Sink Incident
I'll never forget the time Denise called me and asked me to stay on the phone with her as she was entering her empty apartment. This was when she lived in the Del Prado apartments in Euless in about 1979. She had just gotten home and was going from room to room with a borrowed gun in her hand (bad idea!!!) making sure it was safe. All of the sudden I heard a gunshot and Denise saying Oh no!!! Oh shit!!! and Oh my god!!!!! over and over. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally got back on the phone and told me that she had accidentally shot a hole in the kitchen sink. After that, she said she left plants in the sink for several months pretending to water them so her roommate wouldn't notice. I don't remember what happened with the sink when it was time to move out, but I will always remember that phone call from Denise.

Christmas 1981
I remember taking this black and white picture of Denise for a high school photography class. I developed the film and then printed the picture. I have always loved this picture of her.

HAPPY JULY 11th!!!
Denise Goes Batty!
One of the funniest times I can remember about my mom was the night that the bat got into our house!
It was shortly after we moved to Ohio, and me and Katie were watching TV in mom's room and she was on the phone (I think she was talking to Debby) in the other room. All of a sudden a bat flew into my mom's room, and Katie immediately realized it was a bat and ran down the stairs screaming. I was staring at it for a minute, trying to realize what it was until it registered in my head that Katie was screaming "BAT! BAT!" and that something was swooping by my face. I ran down the stairs after her, screaming, and mom came outside after us because she thought we were fighting and I had chased Katie down the stairs. We told mom what happened, and she locked the bat in her room and we called over Conni, Mariya, and Michelle.
The rest of us waited in Conni's van from the driveway while my mom put on a huge winter jacket with a fur hood, gloves, and grabbed a rake. We watched through the window from the van as my mom tried to wrangle the bat out of the window. It was hilarious! We would see the rake swing, then my mom's head duck, then the bat would swoop down. This went on for over 5 minutes, until she finally got it to fly out of the window.
Afterwards, she told us that the bat would fly over and hang in the corner with its back turned to her, and then it would slowly turn its head around and stare at her. She was soooo freaked out!!! That was so funny, I should have recorded it and sent it in to America's Funniest Home Videos!
